Somali Medical Mission

Who are we?

We are a group of dedicated young individuals who aspire to bring hope to the less fortunate by carrying out medical treatments in the Horn of Africa. Through our partnership with the Somali Australian Council of Victoria we intend to deliver this medical mission annually.

About Us

The Somali Medical Mission was established in 2018 as a non-for profit organization.

Our inaugural fundraising dinner ‘Dine 4 Dignity’  held on the 27th of October 2018 marked the beginning of our many endeavours with over 218 attendees. With the efforts and generosity of the community we were able to raise a total of $36,000 on that night.

The 2018 Somali Medical Mission funded 70 fistula surgeries and 560 corrective eye surgeries, the grand amount raised reaching $83,000.

Our Aim

Our organization aims to deliver humanitarian projects to assist those who are affected by their environmental circumstances and hardships. We hope to restore hope and dignity to the most vulnerable.

In future we aim to target a larger audience to ensure individuals who suffer from these curable conditions are provided with the right medical care.

What is Obstetric Fistula?

As defined by the World Health Organization, Obstetric fistula is an abnormal opening between the vagina and the bladder or rectum, leading to continuous urinary or fecal incontinence. It is predominantly caused by a very long, or obstructed, labour when women do not have access to quality emergency obstetric care services.
